Schwäbischer Apfelkuchen
(Swabian Applecake)
Preheat oven to 350°F (176°C).
Soak raisins in the rum for 2 hours.
Cut apples into halves. Peel the skin off and remove cores. Arrange apple halves in the Short Dough Base. Brush apples with melted butter. Sprinkle sugar over apples.
Remove raisins from the rum. Divide raisins evenly over cake. Likewise, spread almond slices evenly over cake.
Bake cake for 45-50 minutes - until base is golden brown and apples appear cooked.
One Short Dough Base (not yet baked)
5-6 Granny Smith Apples (or other tart apple variety)
3 tablespoons Unsalted Butter, melted
2 tablespoons Sugar
1/4 cup Rum
3/4 cup Raisins
1/4 cup Almond Slices
