Weihnachts - Bratapfel   (Christmas Baked Apple)

6 medium-sized Apples
Juice from 1 Lemon
1 cup Almonds, ground
1/4 cup Sugar
2 tablespoons Butter
1/2 cup White Wine
1/2 cup Water
1 tablespoon Honey
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
Zest from 1 Orange
2 tablespoons chopped Pistachios

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Wash and core apples. Peel only the top half of each apple. Brush the peeled part of each apple with lemon juice to prevent browning.

Combine ground almonds, sugar, and butter. Fill the apples with the butter mixture.

Place apples onto a baking pan or casserole dish. Pour the wine and water into the same pan so that the apples are sitting in the liquid. Drizzle the apples with honey, cinnamon and orange zest.

Bake apples for 50 minutes. During baking, take some of the liquid in the pan and pour it over each of the apples to keep them moist.

Serve hot. Before serving, sprinkle some chopped pistachios over each apple.
