Red Glühwein

8 whole Cardamom Pods
10 whole Cloves
4 whole Star Anise
1 Cinnamon Stick
1 teaspoon whole Anise Seeds
1 teaspoon whole Coriander Seeds
4 cups Red Wine
2 cups Water
1 Orange, cut into 1/4 inch slices
Sugar

Slice the cardamom pods open. Combine cardamom, cloves, star anise, cinnamon stick, anise seeds, and coriander seeds. Add this mixture to a tea infuser or an empty large tea bag. If you don't have either one of these, take a coffee filter and place the mixture inside. Fold up the sides, forming a pouch, and tie the top closed with some thread. If none of these options work for you, you could add the spices to the liquid as is and then run it through a sieve to remove it all again after cooking.

Add red wine, water, and spices to a large pot. Gently heat to just before the boiling point. Reduce heat to low and add orange slices. Cook this for an additional 15 minutes (keep heat on low).

Remove the spices from the wine. Sweeten the wine with sugar to taste. Serve immediately.
