A soft, spreadable sausage, made from pork, beef, and bacon. Specific recipes vary - some include garlic, others do not. In the USA, the Braunschweiger is a spreadable liverwurst, made from pork liver.

History
This sausage dates back to the middle-ages, when sausage production was done in private households. Commercial production began in Braunschweig in 1830.
