Käsespätzle   (Spätzle & Cheese)

Fresh Spätzle or 1 package dried Spätzle (available at most German Delicatessens)
2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
3/4 lb Emmentaler Cheese, grated
White Pepper
Bread Crumbs
2 medium Onions, finely chopped


Prepare Fresh Spätzle or cook dried Spätzle according to package instructions.

Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).

In a frying pan, heat vegetable oil. Add onions. Cook onions until light brown.

Grease a casserole dish. Sprinkle the bottom with bread crumbs. Add a thin layer of Spätzle. On top of the Spätzle , add some onions, a little pepper, cheese, and another layer of Spätzle. Repeat this step until the casserole dish if filled. The last layer should be cheese.

Bake until top layer of cheese is melted and has a light golden color. Serve immediately.
