The Berner Wuerstel is a wiener sausage (such as Frankfurter Wuerstchen), sliced long-ways, and filled with cheese (usually Emmentaler cheese), then wrapped in bacon.

History
The exact origin of the Berner Wuerstel is unknown. It is thought to come from Southern Germany. It obtained its name in the 1950s from the Swiss cheese (Emmentaler) that was used in the recipe.
